Despite the tourist literature, Vancouver Island often seems to be a dark place of lush forest growth and carpeted forest floor. In places, the forest runs down to the sea. There is often cloud cover, and in winter it rains. And rains. The heavy overcast creates fabulous clouds and lighting.
I have visited many different regions in Canada. I once rode a bicycle across the Prairies, Northern Ontario, Quebec and some of the Atlantic provinces. I have lived in both Alberta’s major cities, and in several towns in British Columbia. There is something truly unique about Vancouver Island. There is solitude.
